Arley Station History (current research)

The photograph on the right shows the engraved plate that is attached to the stem of an umbrella that was kindly donated to Arley Station in August 2006 by a Mr Robert Young who is the nephew of Mr Joseph Young.

The umbrella was presented to Joseph Young in 1906 by the inhabitants of Arley in recognition of six years service at Arley Station as porter and signalman between 1900 and 1906.

It is a mystery why the local community should have honoured Mr Young in this way, he was just 28 years old at the time.

We are very keen to find out more details behind this event and would ask anyone who may have any other information about this story or any other story which involves the Arley Railway station to please contact us (full details on the contacts page)
